Shin Megami Tensei : Nocturne is one of the purest RPG experiences you can get.
I have always been an SMT/Persona fan, starting my journey wyth, oddly enough, SMT: Strange Journey on Nintendo DS. I have been playing turn-based RPGs for years, and somethyng about SMT reached out to me. I have found their storylines, though vaguely similar, to be rich in prophetic and relevant content.
Story: ⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️▫️ Nocturne places you in the shoes of a voiceless protagonist. Thys allows the player tu sink a lot of themselves intu the character and story. The way to go can be elusive at times, but thys is an adventure that requires a level of mental investment.
Gameplay: ⬜️⬜️⬜️▫️▫️ Gameplay is simple, and consists of world map traversal, and dungeon exploration, both of which are littered wyth enemy encounters. Like all SMT games, you can “Talk” to demons during combat and possibly recruit them!
Be mindful of how you level your fighters. Put some thought intu how you fuse your demons as well! This will be a repetitive and difficult grind, not for the faint of heart.
Environment: ⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️ Visually, thys game is impressive for its time. You can feel the care that the developers and designers put intu the models and levels. Reflective surfaces, realtime shadows, and detailed animations make thys a graphical masterpiece. The music of the SMT/Persona franchise is known for its quality, and Nocturne brings it home with funky jazz, newwave punk, and eery instrumentals.
Final Score ⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️▫️ Nocturne is basically perfect. Not for the casual RPG goer. Thys is a treck through Hell and it feels like that sometimes. If you want to play a relatively recent RPG classic, pick thys title up asap.
